My first Iowa wedding styled shoot recap of 2021! In late November of 2020 I was invited to be a part of a project full of exciting and talented vendors. Erin Swisher had big visions and she was pulling out all the stops to make them a reality. She pitched me an idea that was sure to brighten my feed. New Year’s Eve wedding with jewel toned details. Of course I was in!
I love doing styled shoots…I honestly probably do more of them than I should (but that’s a topic for another day, lol). I love them not because they fill my creative cup, or perfect my portfolio… I love styled shoots because they give me a chance to meet and work with new people that I otherwise would have never had the chance to know. You see, when I’m hired for a wedding, I don’t actually get to see all the BTS of the caterers bringing in the food, the photographer snapping those forever moments, or the rental company setting up every perfect detail. So even though I technically work with new vendors all the time.. I never actually meet them face to face. That’s why when I participate in a styled shoot, I don’t just do my part and leave. I stick around and make sure things look perfect on camera, that nothing needs touched up, and spend time getting to know everyone involved. In my opinion, it makes getting the gallery back that much more special.
There were 4 ladies needing hair and makeup for this particular shoot. As a team of one, I just couldn’t commit to doing both hair and makeup by myself. It just realistically would take too long. Thankfully, Erin had already enlisted the help of another hairstylist, Ari. Ari aka Lemon Head Hair, really knows her way around an updo. She is fun, friendly, and definitely has a way with hair.
The River Center, an Iowa wedding venue, hosted the event and had the perfect space for everything Erin had planned. There was a table setting full of floral and beautiful decor and in another area displayed a stunning neon sign from Mariglow Neon. “But wait… there’s more!” In my best billy Mayes voice… It wouldn’t be a New Years Eve themed shoot without a ballon drop, DJ’s, and a Marquee sign that read “ New Year New Name”
I wasn’t exaggerating when I said Erin went BIG. Multiple photographer captured all the excitement. The photos I’ve shared in this blog are from Betty Ann photography but it honestly was so hard to pick just one gallery to share, y’all. Everyone that was involved were seriously so talented.
