How do you choose if airbrush or traditional makeup is right for your wedding day? Well get comfortable, because this might get lengthy.. I have all the details and I am about to break them down for you.

First, I feel like there is a lot of hype surrounding this technique. From how to wears and lasts – to what it’s actual capabilities are. So lets just dig right in shall we?

1. Airbrush Makeup Lasts Longer

   In my opinion, any makeup will last if you prep and set correctly. Seriously, I’ve used $8 Maybeline Fit me foundation and had the same results as my $42 Too Faced Born This Way foundation. Why? Because I use an appropriate primer and I set my makeup. The foundation is just a middle man for coverage.

2. Airbrush Makeup Looks Flawless

   This is can be true.. depending on your needs and skin type. (see a trend here?) there’s a common misconception that airbrush makeup is this magic heal all thing. When actually, if you have a lot of acne,scarring, dryness, or fine lines… it’s probably not your best choice.

3. Airbrush Makeup Is Waterproof

   You’ll hear artists boast about it’s “silicone base” but most traditional foundations have some form of silicone base too. Cyclopentasiloxane is the 2nd ingredient in the traditional foundation I tend to use in my kit. So, staying on trend.. it’s important know what ingredients are in your products, regardless of the technique being used.

We tend to see and hear about all these models & celebrities using airbrush makeup, but what we lack is context. These people have spent top tier money on skin care routines. They spend a significant amount of time getting different treatments, whether that be plastic surgery or facials. And let’s not forget that even paparazzi on the red carpet do their own airbrush touching up in post production photoshop.

So here’s my tips for any bride who may be having a hard time deciding if airbrush or traditional makeup is right for them-

1. What type of finish are you wanting?

   Are you looking for a healthy skin perfecting glow or do your prefer more of a matte full coverage look?

2. Are you more concerned about looking good in photos or long lasting in person wear?

   Airbrush is great for photography because it mimics how the camera sees the skin but traditional makeups can be more precise & blended. This will give you a longer lasting result.

3. Talk with your artist !!

   This has got to be the best piece of advice I can give. If you have any concerns or questions, do not hesitate to chat with your makeup artist. Set up a trial and allow them to have a look at your skin type. Discuss how you envision your makeup on your wedding day & what you’re looking to get out of your makeup throughout the night. Your artist will be able to determine what products they carry in their kit that will turn your makeup dream into a reality.
