What’s Galentine’s Day?
“Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.” – Leslie Knope.
Sorry… Now that that’s out of the way, lets chat about all the delicate details of this absolutely gorgeous styled shoot.
I’ve wanted to do a bridal styled shoot with this theme for SO LONG now. I literally have been talking about this to friends forever and apparently I started talking about it to the right person, Sarah Bergan of Vowed Vintage.
If you’ve been around my business for a while now, you’ll know that Sarah was a previous bride of mine, turned vendor pal, turned gal pal. So obviously it was fitting we worked on this project together… and by together I mean, Sarah really did all the work & enlisted the amazing team of Jess & Nicole with Cheers Events.
If you were ever thinking about hiring an event planner or coordinator.. here’s your sign. Cheers Events handled every detail and made sure nothing was missed. From a precise timeline to a flawless execution of setup, run through, and tear down, not a detail was missed during this Iowa bridal experience. They even made sure there were some extra goodies for us to snack on.
Now when deciding on the perfect Iowa wedding venue to host this shoot, the choice was easy. 1868 Farmhouse in Boone has the most stunning and chic bridal suite. There couldn’t have been a better choice to showcase a bride and her sweet gal pals pre wed ceremony.
The room is not only spacious but it has the best combination of delicate touches with a hint of rustic charm with the exposed brick that is original to the house. The bridal suite also hosts three mirrors and getting ready chairs with shelves in between for all my tools!
Planning how I wanted this bridal hair and makeup to look for this shoot was seriously one of my favorites. We all know I am a sucker for a good full glam, but this year I want to get back to my roots. The styles that made me fall in love with doing hair and makeup for weddings in the first place. Natural, romantic, soft glam has always been my jam and right on trend with Iowa bridal styles.
I am a fool for blush tones, a good soft glow, and a wispie individual lash line. Combo that with elegantly textured hair styles and you have yourself the perfectly timeless bridal style.
This shoot was full of delicate touches and so it was important to me that the hair and makeup for bridesmaids as well as the bride complimented that.
I decided it was best to keep everything really fresh but with a touch of glam. I wanted to showcase how different hairstyles can compliments one another. I did this by choosing an updo for the bride to show off the stunning neckline in her gown, a whimsical half up style for one bridesmaid, and a very effortless side swept style for the other bridesmaid.
The blush tones I chose for the makeup were really complimented by the different tones and shades of pink in the florals and gowns. Sage at Modern Dress, also located in Boone, IA, was so helpful in choosing gowns. We wanted to showcase different tones all in the same color pallete while also playing up different textiles.
Sibyl Sophia Floral put together the most perfect floral bouquets and decor pieces. Keeping the focus of the shoot very simple and delicate without being too understated.
This was an absolute dream team to work with and I hope this blog and shoot has inspired you to hire this Iowa wedding team or schedule additional time for special photos of you and your wedding party!
