I normally flat iron my hair before curling it, should I do this before my appointment?

Please refrain from any heat styling prior to your appointment. Flat ironing your hair before curling it will compromise the longevity of your style. Stylists have been trained to curl hair with a technique that smooths as it curls, so there is no need for a flat iron prior.

How long will my hairstyle last?

There is no one size fits all answer for this. However, with over a decade of experience and thousands of clients from all over the globe, we have found the most effective techniques in getting your hair to hold a style for as long as possible. This being said, updo styles tend to last longer because the hair is secured with pins.

Does dirty hair really style better?

No! This is such an old myth. Your hair styles best when its been recently washed & blow dried with no other hot styling.

How do I know what style is best for me?

When thinking of how you would like your hair styled, keep in mind a few things; your hair texture, length, and thickness. Remember- clip in extensions are a great accessory to achieve most styles !

Whats the difference between traditional makeup & airbrush?

The biggest difference between traditional makeup and airbrush is the application process. This typically determines the overall finish of your look. If you are wanting a luminous glowy finish, airbrush is a great and effective technique. However, with the advancement in tools of the trade, you can also achieve different looks with a traditional foundation. We begin every appointment with a consultation to determine what will best fit your skin type and needs.

How long will my makeup last?

Just like hair, there isn’t a one size fits all answer for this. However, with over a decade of experience and thousands of clients from all over the globe, we have custom tailored kits of products for every skin type and need. Want something lightweight but long lasting during the humid summer? We got it. Want something full coverage and glam but have textured skin? Don’t you worry! Upon arrival to your appointment your artist will do a consultation and figure out what are the best products to use to fit all of your needs.

What brand of makeup do you use?

Our kits are like a fancy cocktail composed of many many different things. A few of my personal TOP choices are Inglot, Urban Decay, Makeup Forever, & Too Faced. However, all of the Hello Darlin' Glam artists strive to stock their kits with hypo-allergenic and cruelty free products as much as possible.

Do you charge a travel fee?

Travel is complimentary within an hour of the DSM metro. Anything further than an hour of Des Moines is subject to a travel fee of $0.58 per mile, roundtrip.

Do I need a trial?

Trials are a great way to get to know your artist and narrow down the best hair and makeup style for you! We recommend trials for those who may be trying to decide between a few styles or don't typically wear makeup and would like to get a better idea of how it will look on them. Check out our services page to see our packages that include trial runs!
